Boyd USA is the musical journey of Salvatore Boyd. Born and bred on the ocean in NJ, ever the restless soul, Sal's journey has brought him far north and south across USA. These journeys have fueled Sal's ever prolific juices to create his not quite rock 'n' roll but more like heart 'n' soul sound. It's a joyful noise! Salvatore is greatly inspired by gospel music and its universal freedom. This has led us to the peaceful and warming sounds of 7am, Boyd USA's debut album.
7am is music to be listened to on your way to work or church or when your the only one just arriving home when the rest of the world is waking back up.
Boyd USA is a joyful noise! It stands for a generation in need of a voice and a journey in search of pure soul. The debut album, 7:am, was created in 4 days of LIVE recording sessions. Sally and producer Marc Swersky (Joe Cocker, Gedeon Luke) decided to just throw some charts in front of great players and record it old school. Playing through each tune about 4 times with Sally singing and playing acoustic guitar or mandolin the band; feathering Steve Holley (Paul McCartney & Wings) and James Williams (Gary Burton) on drums, Thad Debrock (Aimee Mann, Spring Awakening) and Al Street (Sugarman 3, Charles Bradley) on guitars, Todd Caldwell (CS&N, Burlap to Cashmere) and Plinky Giglio on B3 and piano, and Swersky covering the bass, the foundation of 7:am was uncovered.
With Steven Salcedo (Gedeon Luke) on saxophones and flute, and Kenny "Stringbean" Sorenson on harmonica adding great color and mood to 7:am's dusty beds all that was left was the need for sunrise. This was brought to us by our featured vocalists Layonne Holmes, Gedeon Luke, Brielle Brown, Janet Mendez, and The Puryears who brought that sweet gospel sound. 7:am is music to be listened to on your way to work or church or when your the only one just arriving home when the rest of the world is waking back up.
